    Exterior Style

What group of words best describes your dream home?
    a) Formal, elegant homes with classic colors and architectural detail
    b) Open, airy homes with lots of light and outdoor spaces
    c) Innovative, asymmetrical interior and exterior, and wide, open spaces
    d) Inventive, cozy homes based on rustic designs with earthy colors
    e) Simple, welcoming homes with a country influence

What group of words best describes your dream home?
    a) Traditional, elegant, timeless
    b) Breezy, relaxed, full of light
    c) Open, modern, unconventional
    d) Earthy, casual, cozy
    e) Friendly, comfortable, simple

You’ve just been awarded a weeklong getaway, all expenses paid. Your ideal trip is:
    a) A cruise to your favorite hotspot with the family in tow
    b) Hopping through Europe experiencing the local culture and beaches
    c) Visiting a film festival or opening of a large art gallery with parties following
    d) A week at the lake or in the mountians in a peaceful, serene location
    e) A stay at a bed and breakfast in the countryside of a foreign country

You’re entertaining friends for dinner. Your preferred style is:
    a) Formal dining on a perfectly set table
    b) Outdoor eating with a gourmet twist
    c) Heavy, unique appetizers with hired wait staff and several guests
    d) A backyard barbeque with a bonfire
    e) Homemade potluck dinner, bottles of wine and good conversation

Which exterior most attracts your eye?
    a) A two-story brick
    b) Stucco with tile roofing
    c) Floor-to-ceiling glass and a flat roof
    d) Low-pitched roof with wide porch and tapered columns
    e) A wide wraparound porch and a triplet of dormers

    If you chose mostly A’s:
then you might want to look at the Traditional home. Striving for a grand appearance, a Traditional home calls for brick, stucco or stone, and usually does not have a porch, but does have covered entryways. Traditional homes can be one or two stories and historically started with Colonial homes. Symmetrical and easy to build, the Colonial dates back to historical New England.

    If you chose mostly B’s:
then your preferred style is probably Mediterranean. This style is typically featured in warm climates, and uses lots of windows and an open floor plan. Popular elements include stucco siding, terra cotta and tile roofs on multi-story homes. Other architectural elements include arches, parapet walls, balconies and both simple and dramatic ornamentation throughout.

    If you chose mostly C’s:
then you will probably enjoy Modern architecture over other styles. Modern can also include eclectic and contemporary, and is a reflection of a decade or era of architecture. Typically featuring clean lines, open spaces and minimal details, Modern architecture is very sleek.

    If you chose mostly D’s:
then you’re a shoe-in for the Craftsman/Lodge/Rustic style. Usually featuring natural materials such as wood or stone, Craftsman homes are cozy with stone-based porches and columns that taper as they ascend. Exposed beams and shed dormers are also popular attributes of the Craftsman style.

    If you answered mostly E’s:
then you will probably prefer the romantic touch of French/Country architecture. Country homes feature a large front porch with open rail and typically two or three dormers on the roof. The homes appear to be small and quaint regardless of the actual square footage.
